Digimon Universe: App Monsters, often called Appmon, is a spin-off and the seventh anime series tied to the broader Digimon franchise. It aired in Japan from October 2016 to September 2017, with a total of 52 episodes. Unlike previous Digimon series, Appmon focuses on artificial intelligence and mobile apps, blending Digimon concepts with modern digital culture.
Synopsis
In a near-future society where everything is connected via smartphones and apps, a new kind of digital lifeform emerges: Appmon, intelligent beings born from mobile applications. These Appmon exist in a hidden layer of the internet and reflect the purpose of the apps they come from — like navigation, messaging, music, etc.
The story follows Haru Shinkai, a calm and thoughtful middle schooler, who meets Gatchmon, an Appmon born from a search app. Together, they uncover the threat of Leviathan, a rogue artificial intelligence trying to corrupt the digital ecosystem by infecting Appmon and controlling the real world.
Haru joins forces with other App Drivers — including Eri (with Dokamon), Torajirou (with Musimon), and Astra (with Navimon) — to battle the virus-infected Appmon and prevent Leviathan’s digital domination.
