Overview

Digimon World: Re:Digitize is a spiritual successor to the original Digimon World (PS1) — bringing back the pet-raising, time-based life simulation mechanics that defined the early series. It combines the classic formula with improved visuals, a structured story, and dozens of Digimon partners.

You play as Taiga, a teenage hacker who gets pulled into the Digital World via his Digivice. With the help of his Digimon partner, he must uncover the mystery behind a digital conspiracy threatening to erase Digimon consciousness.

Story Summary

You’re trapped in a Digital World under threat from a mysterious program that wipes Digimon memories and personalities.

You explore File Island and other areas to gather clues, restore Digimon, and stop the entity causing the corruption.

Along the way, you’ll recruit Digimon to rebuild File City, raise your partner, and uncover the truth behind the villainous Crimson and the group The Company.

Core Gameplay & Mechanics

Re:Digitize faithfully replicates the life simulation RPG style from Digimon World 1, with major quality-of-life improvements.

Partner Digimon System

  • You raise one partner Digimon (two in Decode) from Fresh to Mega.
  • Your Digimon will:
    • Eat, sleep, get sick, need training
    • Age, die, and be reborn with better stats
  • You influence evolution through:
    • Training routines
    • Battle performance
    • Discipline & care mistakes
    • Bond level and hunger/satisfaction

Training & Stats

  • Train at the gym or in battle to boost:
    • HP, MP, Offense, Defense, Speed, Brains
  • Training is essential for Digivolution, survival, and unlocking higher-tier forms.

Digivolution & Death

  • Digimon follow hidden evolution conditions.
  • Your Digimon eventually dies of old age or care mistakes, and is reborn as a DigiEgg, carrying over some stats and progress.
  • This loop allows long-term progression through generations.

City Building

  • Like Digimon World 1, you recruit Digimon to:
    • Open shops
    • Upgrade facilities
    • Unlock fast travel, storage, training bonuses
  • The more you recruit, the more your city expands.

Battle System

  • Real-time combat with AI-controlled Digimon (you give strategy commands).
  • Use items and set behavior (Aggressive, Defensive, etc.)
  • Winning battles boosts stats and unlocks evolution paths.
  • Later in the game, you unlock manual command inputs for special skills and tighter control.

Digimon Count

PSP Version:

  • Over 100 Digimon, from multiple generations including Adventure, Tamers, Savers, and original game-only species.

3DS Decode Version:

  • Over 160+ Digimon, including new characters, bosses, and evolutions.

Equipping Accessories

In Re:Digitize, accessories are cosmetic items that allow you to customize the appearance of your partner Digimon. While they don’t affect stats or combat performance, they add a layer of visual flair and personalization, making your Digimon feel more unique and giving players a fun way to express their style.

The accessory system is entirely optional and purely aesthetic, but it became a beloved feature among fans.

Tips for New Players

  • Train early and often – Hit stat goals to reach Champion/Ultimate forms quickly.
  • Avoid care mistakes – Too many can lock you into poor evolutions.
  • Save before Digivolution – You might want to retry for better forms.
  • Use food and bathroom breaks wisely – Ignoring them leads to sickness and death.
  • Recruit aggressively – Building up the city unlocks better training options and support.
